Atonement – Movie Review

Its been a while since a movie has compelled me to write a review on it. Atonement left me haunted; some scenes and some background scores still echo clearly in mind. Atonement is that good, and a testament even today good books can be adapted on screen. This is how a book should be adapted. Atonement clearly is my pick for movie of the year for me (Its a 2007 movie).

Atonement, a famous novel by Ian McEwan is a difficult book to adapt to screen. Its not the story per se that is difficult to adapt, but getting the core of the story to screen that is what makes it difficult. The real Atonement lies in the final act of the book where it hits you like a brick, almost unexpectedly. By changing the setting of the end a bit, the director was able to bring about the same shock to its viewers. At that point, you realize you must watch Atonement again to grasp what happened in the movie.

At its core, Atonement surrounds the lives of three people – Robbie, Cecelia and Briony. Briony misinterprets Robbie’s love for Cecelia as something very wrong, and frames Robbie in the rape of her visiting cousin. Although Cecelia believes Robbie could have done no wrong, she’s in the minority and helpless. Robbie, son of a caretaker and in class much lower than Cecelia is immediately sent to jail, where he’s given an option to either remain in jail or go to war. Robbie choses to go to war as a soldier.

5 years later, when Briony is older and more mature she begins to realize the misdoings of her actions and the consequences of her act. The rest of the movie is about what happens to the lives of all three of them – do they ever meet each other? Does Cecelia forgive Briony? Does Briony set things right for Cecelia and Robbie? Do Robbie and Cecelia get together to lead the happy life they wanted to live? Without giving anything away, I would say, just watch the movie. And yes, the ending is a shocker.

Performances wise, this movie belongs whole heartedly to James McAvoy as Robbie who does a brilliant job portraying the character of Robbie; he’s easily my pick for the best actor this year and would be a real shame if he didn’t walk away with the awards. Kiera Knightley gives a nuanced performance, and finally lends credibility to her acting prowess rather than her cute look. Though I am not quite sure if she was the right choice for the role. Briony as the 13 year old, the 18 year old and a much older woman were absolutely perfectly cast. Each of them at their age bring about perfection, especially the child actress. There is something eerily striking about the young Briony, which is exactly how she comes across in the book.

However, the movie and book would have both suffered had it not been the expert direction of Joe Wright and a brilliant screenplay. Given McEwan’s tendency to write non-linear structured stories, this was a difficult book to bring to life. Especially the third act which brings everything together, especially why the book is called Atonement and what does it really mean. I think Joe Wright succeeds in bringing out the core of the story. As with any Ian McEwan, his characters go into lengthy introspections, thankfully of which is quite less in the movie.

Cinematography and Music are a complete standout in the movie – absolutely brilliant. The music composed by Dario Marianelli is not just haunting but incredibly touching and fits the tone of the movie. The choice using the typewriter as part of music was awesome. Cinematography is consistently superb, be it showing the classic English Victorian side or the war ravaged Dunkirk.

Which brings me to the scene of the year for me. It all comes together in the Dunkirk scene, where the cinematography, direction, music, acting and pretty much everything else is just perfection. There’s this one long scene without any cuts that was shot with a steady motion camera that lasts for five minutes. Those five minutes are the film’s absolute best moments – an incredibly well shot scene. To imagine that such a lengthy scene was shot in ONE go, with thousands of extras all in the scene and to achieve the effect that Joe Wright does, is an art. This scene alone is worth the price of the ticket.

You can watch the scene at dunkirk here. Check out the acting, the background music, the scene and the way the scene has been shot.

All in all, Atonement is a class act. Simply not to be missed.

You know you’re getting older when…

(inspired by this post)

When you start reminiscing about how Sachin Tendulkar demoralized the Australian bowling in Sharjah, and you were hooked to the TV to savor his strokework. “He was young then” you answer when someone asks why Sachin is no longer that batsman. Or for that matter, your only glowing memory of Venkatesh Prasad is the quarter-final between India and Pakistan in Bangalore, and Aamir Sohail.

When friends from really long time ago ping you on chat and say “Hey Buddy, Howz it going” and you reply “Nothing much”, and you both quickly run out words to keep up the conversation.

You buy tickets for parties and clubs where there are more upper 20s or lower 30s crowd. Suddenly the college hangout clubs seem like places where there’s too much noise, uncouth young kids, and perpetually drunk people. You look at such crowds with disapproval and think you too partied like hell, but were never like them. Hence you justify your choice of a more sober party.

The first thing you want to do when you go back to your hometown is to eat the dabeli from a stall outside your school. You feel happy that the price of dabeli has increased just 2 Rs even after all these years. And the taste, its unchanged. You look at your school from the dabeli-chat center and all the uniformed kids in there and wonder who are they. You so want to go to the school and say hello, even to the meanest teacher that ever taught you, but you are in a hurry to go somewhere else. You promise to self that you’ll be back again to go to school and eat dabelis too, but you never do.

You smirk at someone who says he wants to open up his or her business and gives you a rundown on how they’d do it. You realize you thought you too could take on the world too at some point. There’s a cynic in you now who looks at everything in doubt.

When you and your friends start discussing who’s going to have the first baby in your group. Some years ago, mentioning the word “relationship” would have been a crime in itself.

You go to your friend’s place and glance at his bookshelf. All it contains are books on subjects like “investments”, “strocks”, “real estate”, “tax planning” and the likes. You wonder wherever did those Tintins and Calvins go.

You hate driving long distances. If it can be reached by a plane or a bus, you will pay for the tickets and feel happy. Only a few years ago, you would have driven and saved the money so you could have blown it on something else.

You feel happy on discovering your old friends on facebook. All of you add each other in each other’s friends list. You even go as far as to say “His” and “Hellos”, and then each one of you disappears into your own world.

There are hardly any messages in the college e-group you were a member of once you had graduated. It would be filled with news of people joining and leaving companies. Some would announce their marriages, while others their alliances. Mobile phone number changes would be promptly notified in the group lest somebody else forget them. Some others would mail about the college and how things improved significantly once you left. And then it starts winding down. You have no idea after a while who’s where in which place. You have no idea who’s married or is getting married. And then you stop caring anymore. Occasionally somebody sends what seems like an update, but you are too busy to read it and forget about it.

When you look through your friend’s status in Orkut and they’ve gone from being “single” to “married”, some uploading even their babies pictures in their albums. They used to be your classmates in schools and colleges once.

Top Music of 2007

The list is in ascending order of “topness”; the last song is the best song I have heard this year. I initially thought of putting up the songs for you guys to listen, but chucked out as I have no intention of serving any copyright infringement claims. Instead, I suggest you navigate to papuyaar.com or raaga.com and listen to them there. Or perhaps google it out on Youtube 🙂

Sajnaji Vaari Vaari – Honeymoon Private Travels Ltd.

The very first time I heard this song, I knew this had a potential to be a massive dance number. Though not quite in the league of Kajra Re or Beedi, Sajnaa Ji has enough meat in her to get even the most boring people to start tapping their foot. The bass beat is awesome in this track.

O Re Piya – Aaja Nachle

Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is probably the best male singer around these days. And this song tells you why. He handles the variations and pitch of the song so beautifully!

Main Agar Kahoon – Om Shaanti Om
The only good song in this otherwise megacrap of an album. This song was a delight; different, old-school style and very romantic. Just what the doctor ordered for the lovesick.

Dhaage Tod Lao – Jhoom Barabar Jhoom
Is it a surprise why Rahat Fateh Ali Khan features again in this list? The only “slow” song in this dancethon collection, this was a beautifully done number. Shankar Eshaan Loy have this knack of coming up with such fresh sounding tracks over and over again.

Bhool Bhulaiyya – Bhool Bhulaiyya
Not since Dam-maro-dam has Hare-Krishna-Hare-Ram been used so effectively in a song. Though the English interludes harm the song, the overall song is one zany kick ass number. I can’t get bored of. Not this year.

Tum Se Hi – Jab We Met
Jab We Met boasted of a very strong soundtrack; This was the best song of the lot. Especially the lyrics. Mohit Chauhan does a great job of singing it too.

Pari – Saawariya
Unlike many, I loved the soundtrack of Saawariya. There were many songs to chose from in this album, but Pari stands out as my favorite. The lyrical quality, the dramatic arrangements and the whistling tune. Its one helluva track.

Barso Re – Guru
A. R. Rahman may not have hit bulls eye with soundtrack of Guru, but he sure did with this song. I can’t see one bad note in this song; and every time I have pointed out that this is an awesome dance song, especially for women, I am given a look of surprise. Until, that is we saw a dancer perform this song brilliantly on stage, did everyone agree with me that this is an incredibly folksy dance tune.

Kitni Der Tak – Delhi Heights
Delhi Heights perhaps is the best soundtrack of the year for me coming out of Bollywood. Rabbi Shergill outdoes himself from his Rabbi days and proves he’s not a fluke. Sonu Nigam is in top form here. There is something about this song which makes me feel very happy and romantic. The guitars simply add to the magic. And yeah, the lyrics too!

Tere Bin – Delhi Heights
Is it a surprise then that another song of Delhi Heights is also my favorite song of the year? I understand quite less of this song, and have looked up the translation of this poetic song; believe me, I think Rabbi gave it his absolute best to the song. The feeling that song echoes is incredibly touching; I personally think this is one of the best love songs, ever.

Thats it – those were my top songs of the year. A few notable mention includes couple of songs of Aggar, The Train, Aawarapan, Abhijit Sawant’s Junoon and Dhoondein, Life in a Metro and 1971.

Boys 2 Men

Today, I’ve become a man.

I got a speeding citation, complete with pictures, radar speed and a closeup shot of my license shot. Apparently I was hurrying up in a measly lane, just off the place I say and I was 12 miles above speed limit!

Ye!!! Now none of my friends can claim that I am a measly little bullock-cart driver or a small boy riding his home toy car.

People

Some people really make me look dumb. Especially when they give me that “You don’t know…” look.

~ The plumber who comes to fix the water leak under the wash basin goes on to length explaining how the water flows from under the building to my tenth floor apartment. And in between so many things must happen, each of which i have no clue about. Anyways, he must also explain to me which bolts and which nuts join which pipes and how one of them has gone loose and it needs to be replaced and blah blah blah. I hate it when they look so purposeful and determined to get your problem fixed. And the smile on their faces when they do fix it; almost like “There duffer, its fixed”.

~ The car mechanic who looks at you with disdain, opens the bonnet, puts his hands around several different places, nods his head in disapproval and goes on to ask you “Have you replaced oil lately?” Later when he checks about a speaker problem I complain about, he barely takes two seconds to tell me its the door that’s vibrating and not my speaker. Yes, he also gives that look of “Dude at least get your problem right!”.

~ The carpenter who has come to takes it upon himself to explain how windows are fixed in the wall, and how the new window had better insulation. Must also go in detail and explain what insulation means to me. In between he must crib about how other carpenters don’t pay attention to details and that’s why windows need to be replaced, all the while giving me “If you called me last time instead of that other carpenter, you wouldn’t face this problem now!” look.

~ The perfume store lady who walks with you with a bag of coffee beans and makes you smell each of the exotic varieties of perfume. Obviously she knows a lot about perfumes and you dont. Like the delicate touch of lilac or tulips or the nuances that each of them bring to the smell. She loves fluttering her eyes and touching your wrists frequently, and keeps reminding you that the most expensive brand is also the best brand. After much smelling around and getting completely nauseatic and you give up, she gives you that “Just take what I say, I know best. Why are you wasting my time!”

Fortune Cookie

My fortune cookie that traveled with my chinese takeout had this to say:

Every man is a volume if you know how to read him

So what this fortune trying to say?!

That women are dumb, really and there’s nothing to them? Ah, I know I am being sexist 😛

Or this fortune cookie was directed to a woman in the first place but mistakenly wound itself in my hands?

Either way, I am proud; at least one cookie believes I am a man of volume, and I deserve to be understood and read 😀 [Hear ye! Hear Ye! Cookie.]

Travel Agent Woes

Don’t you just love it when travel agents give you un-asked for advice? And with me, that is especially the case. Travel agents assume I am stupid and need directions, and it is their responsibility as a good agent to show me the way. Even if it means few hundred bucks less in their business. So over the last one and half months, my mind has been muddled with travel agents and the arrangements for the upcoming wedding (Whose wedding? Oh yeah! Mine. Bad joke. Sorry honey!). Added to the mix is that I was initially traveling from east coast, now all of it has to be changed to west coast. And a change from east to west means, well, a east to west change. Anyways, here are some of the collected pearls of wisdom I have got from travel agents when I have tried to book tickets through them

Me: “Can I get a fare quote from SFO to Ahmedabad between these dates? I cannot travel Singapore airlines as I cannot take a morning flight on Friday…”
Agent: “The best deal we can give you is Singapore Airlines”
Me: “I cannot leave on Friday morning – any other airlines?”
Agent: “Singapore is the best airline to travel…”

And so it went.

Next –

“Can I get a fare quote from SFO to Ahmedabad between these dates blah blah..”
“The cheapest option is to fly Malaysian airlines”
“Yes I know about it, but it is a 42 hour journey, and I am looking for the shortest traveling time”
“But other options can be expensive!”
“Yes I know, can you give me some numbers?”
“Why do you want to spend more money when you can go so cheap? Its only 42 hours!”
“Can you or can you not give me a quote”
“The only other less expensive option is Singapore air…”

Grrrrrrrr. Next –

“Please give me quote from SFO to Ahmedabad via european airlines only. My criteria is shortest time to travel”
“Korean air gives the best deal sir. Its only $$$$. But you cannot fly on Friday. You have to fly on Thursday or Monday”
“I can’t do either – I dont have holiday on Friday and Monday is too late. I have done my research. How about European airlines”
“Can’t you take a leave on Friday? You will save so much money!”
“Can you talk to my employer?”
“No sir. We can’t do that sir. But if you take holiday on Friday, then you will reach one day earlier also and you will get a good deal!”
“I am not interested in a deal right now, I just want some quotes to compare with online quotes. Can you give me those numbers?”
“Sorry sir, we don’t deal with European carriers”.

Next time, just stick to the point, will you? Next –

“Please give me a one way quote from Washington DC to Ahmedabad, and Ahmedabad to SFO”
“Why are you flying out of DC?”

None of your business. Next –

“Please give me a quote between DC and Ahmedabad, can be via Delhi or Bombay and return from SFO to Ahmedabad”
“Air India is the cheapest option”
“No. Not Air India – I just don’t like flying that airline. How about Lufthansa or British Airways”
“Air India is Indian sir. You will get good food also. Why don’t you fly Air India?”
“No. Can you simply tell me about Lufthansa?”
“They are expensive”
“Yes?”
“They are expensive. I can give you a quote, but I know you won’t book it. You will go back to Air India sir. So why not book it?”

Thank you. Next time, keep your assumptions to yourself. Next –

“Please give me a quote from SFO to Ahmedabad or DC to Ahmedabad and Ahmedabad to SFO back for two people. Also I cannot travel Singapore or any Korean-Malaysian airline. I don’t like Air India either. My criteria is shortest travel time. Please avoid Gulf Air. I can do with connections via Bombay or Delhi in India”
“We will get back to you tomorrow”.

That was last week.

“Sir you are asking one way from SFO to ahmedabad and one way from Ahmedabad to SFO – its a return ticket sir!!”
“Oh yes – of course. You’re smart. So do you have anything for me?”
“Singapore Airlines….”

Next –

“Sir you want one wone way tickit from Ehmadebad to SFO right?”
“Yes”
“May I ask why? sir – coz you veel end up paying a loth of munny for that ticket”
“I am getting married. My wife is coming along with me. So I need the one way ticket”
“Ken you ask her to come in April or Mey. Tikits will be cheaper you know – I can give a good deal”

WTF? Next –

“So you want one ticket from either SFO or DC to Ahmedabad via a European carrier with acceptable stops in Mumbai or Delhi. Right sir?”
“Yes”
“You can return by Singapore Airlines”
“Yes, I can return by Singapore Airlines. I cannot go by Singapore Airlines”
“See sir, that is the problem. Only return it becomes expensive. So why don’t you come back the same way you are going?”
(I never said I wouldn’t want to dumbhead!) “Yes – I can do that. So what will be the quote?”
“Well sir, if you want to leave from SFO, I can give you the quote, if you want to leave from DC you will have to call our DC office”
“OK give me quote from SFO”
“I have an idea. Why don’t you travel to DC and fly out sir? It will be cheaper”

Strike two dumbhead! Why was I even asking about DC in the first place moron? Next –

There’s no next. I have given up hopes on these agents and am simply booking the tickets online. It may be expensive by some hundred two hundred bucks, but I cannot handle any more advice from these friendly travel agents!

Next post – my resort agent woes. Another wonderful story, in a totally different direction!

The Wall

It wasn’t as if he was afraid to tell her how much loved her. His fear was rejection. What if she said no? What if she would exclaim that he was always her best friend and nothing more? Too filmy, he thought, as he tried to dismiss the idea; certainly she would not say no. Not after all these years of knowing each other. She very well knew he loved her, but she wouldn’t accept it. Women, they can never say anything clearly! He would speak his heart out today for sure. He had come looking for an answer. She either loved him or she did not. He simply had to know the truth about her feelings. Maybe he was only her friend, but he didn’t care. At least he would live that knowledge than pursuing false hope. But would he be able to live if she said no? Who knows, he had spent a while pursuing the question to no use. He would know soon. She should be out anytime now.

But it was not her. He clearly saw someone walk out the door. He’d never seen her before. Unlike other young women of her age whose clothes kept getting shorter and shorter, she was in a blue salwaar kameez. She was walking towards him. As he kept looking, his eyes looked past her. Maybe she was behind her; maybe she would come out in a bit. She could be her relative; perhaps her sister. He’d never seen her before. She had two brothers and seven cousins, and he knew all of them by their name. Then how did he not know her? Maybe she never told him about her? It was not possible she couldn’t. Perhaps it was her friend he had never met. She had always about talked about her childhood friends to him. Before she moved to this small town, she was in a big city where she as she said many friends. It must be one of them he decided. But why was he so sure of that? Just because she was walking towards him? It could be someone else too – perhaps somebody she didn’t know either.

“Hi” she said, breaking his thought. He almost reacted as if someone sneaked up behind him and shouted in his ears. As he regained himself, he saw, she was next to him. And it was not her. He didn’t feel any compulsion to return comment. He was not in a mood for pleasantries either. And what if she saw him talking to this stranger on the street? He’d been sitting under the tree in front of her house since last night. He’d cycled in middle of the night well after everybody had slept to make himself comfortable under the tree. He would surprise her first thing in the morning she walked out he’d decided. He had spent the night wondering what to say to her, or rather what she would say to him. He knew what he had to say.

“Hi” she said again, disturbing his train of thought again. Why is she even bothering me? He wondered.

“Can I sit down with you?” she asked. He glanced at her, for the first time looking at her face deeply. Dark brown eyes, a streak of red in her hair and a face that immediately struck him as pleasant. It couldn’t hurt, he considered. She had not appeared yet, and he could certainly speak for a few minutes. Maybe in a few minutes the girl would simply get up and go. He was boring anyways, and she wouldn’t stand him he smiled to himself.

“Sure” he said, making space for her so she could rest her back by the trunk.
“So you are waiting for her to come down, aren’t you?”

“Excuse me?!”, this had left him stunned. Did she know her? Maybe she was her friend after all. He was pleased with himself; he could make out her friends even without seeing them. He knew her that well.

“Yes, I am. So, is she ever going to come out of that house or not?” he said faking a little impatience. If needed be, he would’ve waited under the tree for years.

“I don’t know”
“I don’t know?”
“Well you know she’s not coming don’t you?”
“Of course she’s coming!” He’d told her last evening that he would meet her first thing tomorrow morning. She had come over her place to pick up some notes for the class next day. It was then he had told her that he had something important to tell her, and he would tell her next day at the first rays of sun. She didn’t take it literally of course.

Why not today? She’d asked, You always say you have something important to say, but you never do. So why should I believe you? He’d tried to reason that all the previous times he’d been joking, but tomorrow, tomorrow would be different. He’d promised her. Maybe that’s why she was not coming out; perhaps she was getting back at him. No wonder, she sent her friend out to meet him instead of herself. Clearly she had seen him, and now that he was finally there, it was her chance to get back. She would not hear him today. Ah, these women!

“No, she isn’t” she said, breaking his thought again. “She’s dead”

“What rubbish?” he asked raising his voice, clearly in anger. “Don’t ever make that kind of joke with me. Can you ask her to come out please?”, he said clearly irritated at this turn of event. Dead? Of course not – he’d met her just yesterday. Obviously, she had taken the joke too far by asking her friend to say such idiotic words. Or maybe her friend was an idiot too.

“She’s dead” she said again, “And you know it”
“No she isnt! Now just go in and call her out”

“She won’t come out. Not today, not tomorrow and she’s never come out of that house in the last 34 years Goddammit, you know it, don’t you!”

She’d lost her temper, he could clearly see that. But what was this woman even saying? Was she crazy?! 34 years? She was dead? What was she even speaking? She was a lunatic he decided; and it made him uneasy. You could never trust a lunatic like this one. He had to tread carefully.

“No she isn’t”, he said, this time more carefully. He didn’t want to create a scene either. After all he was sitting right outside her house.
“Yes she is. You don’t really remember it do you?” she said, this time more mellow.

“Remember what?”

“You don’t remember do you. She’s been dead since 34 years. Your town was attacked that night by a mob in retaliation. Her house was burnt down in the attack. She and her family were burnt alive. You don’t even remember what happened don’t you?”

“No” What was this mad woman saying anyways!

“Do you know where you are right now?” she asked looking at him with solemn eyes. Of course he knew. He was sitting right in front of her house. There had been riots in the city a couple of years back he knew; maybe she’d lost someone dear and gone mad?

“There is no house there, you know that don’t you? There is no tree here either. You are sitting in backyard looking at a building. Do you know what do they call this place? Its called a mental asylum. She died that night, the town died that night, I just wish you remembered it. You keep coming here in the backyard every morning and keep looking at that wall. Do you know how long you’ve been living here?”

He was not even paying attention. This woman was a lunatic, and she’d been clearly imagining a world of her own. There was no point. The longer he stayed under the tree, more she would blabber nonsense. Perhaps he should just come back tomorrow. After all, he had done this so many times; tell her he wanted to say something important and then back out. He could do it again. But this crazy woman was getting on his nerves. She’d understand him ditching her, yet again, no big deal.

“You’ve been here a long long time” she kept saying, but he wasn’t listening. He was already walking away “Don’t just keep walking away as you always do! Listen me out. She’s dead, and you’ve been here since then. You are not crazy! Everybody says you are crazy except me! Let me help you!”

But he was already on his cycle by then. He looked at his left and saw poster of Mughl-e-Azam on the wall. It was torn at several places, but still one could make out the name of the movie by that pose of Salim and Anarkali. What a perfect moment, he could’ve had his today, had it not been ruined by this crazy woman.

Crazy woman, she almost convinced me it was not 1960, he smirked at himself, as he rode away.

My first attempt at fiction in many many days. Please excuse the rough edges in my prose!

When Gmail invites were precious

Circa 2004.

Gmail had launched with one of its kind beta, invite only marketing campaign. The resulting buildup and curiosity because of entry-by-invite-only reached crazy levels when people who had the invites began to sell them to other people on the net. Those were the days when people would do anything to get a Gmail invite. After all, the brand Google, 1Gb of space and a radical approach to email was enough to lure people from measly 5 Mbs and 2 Mbs that Yahoo and Microsoft provided.

At some point, I also had Gmail invites to give away. There were three to give away, and I had already used up two of them. One remained. Those days I was (I still am) a part of group of people who wrote online. We were a vibrant group then with a lot of people contributing to the group. I held a contest – anybody who could come up with the best poem about me would win the Gmail invite.

Yes, I know, it was a highly narcissistic thing to do, but who cares. The only reason I am posting it today here is I am in a very narcissistic mood hehe. Anyways, here’s the prize winning entry by my dear friend Spooks. Needless to say, his poem was well beyond anything anybody could write and he was the deserving winner!

Enjoy – and yes sing this song for me while you read 😛 😛 😛 😛

Hope for the World

As I sit in front of the computer,
And with a backward glance at Jupiter,
A thought flits through my cerebrum,
Much like the roll of a drum,

Who said divine creatures live only in heaven?
Who said the only one who can save the innings is Michael Bevan?
Who said the noble creatures are not friendly and brave and inspiring?
After reading all this, are you perspiring?

The answers to all such questions lie with one man,
Who has the serenity and love of my gran
He keeps the flame alive and the people safe,
He is the hero to all, including that waif!

Tall and proud he stands and carries himself with immense dignity,
He makes us laugh and is very very witty
He is the cause for our existence, our being,
He is none other, than the Supreme Being!!

I hope you all know who I am talking about,
That he is the all mighty, all Supremus, there is no doubt
He stands alone and protects us all,
Without his benign shadow, we shall all fall!

With this I shall stop,
Or else my head I will chop,
So much praise shall kill me
Either that, or will fill me,

With sweetness and saccharine so profound
That in diabetes I shall forever abound
I hate writing such goody-goddy tosh mosh,
Writing this poem, made me hit myself with a cosh

After reading this if Suyog doesn’t give,
Then never shall I forgive
The wrath of the Supreme Spooks shall be terrible
I shall write more such poems, and that will be unbearable

And so I shall finally conclude,
And then go and dance in the nude,
Suyog is great, Suyog is the chosen one,
He shall reign supreme, or I shall get my Air gun!

Thy Humble servant

Spooks

Fall 2007 Photos

Its been a bizzare fall so far. Last week it was freezing cold, and then suddenly on Thursday it was a warm and spring like. It was the best opportunity to do my annual fall photoshoot. I uploaded them on Flickr Picasa, and I am embedding the slideshow here. Enjoy 🙂

I wanted to call this collection Of Greens and Browns and Yellows and Reds and Oranges. Dunno why I just didn’t name the post like that!
