In the news tonite.

So the area I live experienced one of the hottest days recorded in history. A good 99 Farenheit, translated to 37 degree celcius.

Yes, 37 degree celcius. 99 Farenheit.

At 10.00 PM in the night, we had our local news, which spent 20 minutes out of 30 minutes on this:

1 – Heat index in D.C area was more than 10 making 99 “feel” more like 110. There is a cool front approaching which will bring relief to us, but that is another 24 hours away. Tomorrow will be another hot day, and with heat index temperatures are expected to be 115.

People are advised to stay indoors, and venture out only if absolutely necessary. Carry a bottle of water too.

2 – In northwest D.C, a dog breeder let out his dogs for a walk in the sweltering heat because his A.C was not working. One dog died of the heat, one is in ICU, and one has gone missing!

3 – A woman was absolutely aghast that she had to travel in public transportation buses which didnt have ACs working. “It was like twilight hour from hell” she said on her experience. The state transport authority responded to her complaint saying that “Even though AC is functioning, the bus makes frequent stops to pick and drop people. Every time you open the door, hot air comes in and stays. So its not that the AC is not functioning”.

The news reporter, a stat freak, also informed us with trivia such as: There are 1500 buses operated by State transport, out of which only 14 reported broken AC, and those buses have been taken out of service. State transport officials however got only “10” complaints from riders about excessive heat!

4 – A redskins football player complained to the newscast that he lost 3 pounds during practice tonite! “I had full three meals day bro, but I still lost 3” said the sweaty redskins player.

“Its HOT!” the two reporters in the studio finally agreed, and added further –

Up ahead, two shootings in Northwest D.C, The war on terror, Fidel Castro gone – now what?, and Israel defending – All this, right after the break!

Yes. Weather is a big deal here.

Its about time.

Dear Sourav,

If there is one person whom I believe in more than you in Indian Cricket, it is John. John Wright.

So when I heard this, this and this, I think it is about time, you withdrew your sword and lay it down.

You do not need to fight no more.

Your contribution to Indian Cricket has not, and will never go un-noticed.

You are a warrior, but a true warrior knows when a war is over.

You are still fighting a war with no one on the battlefield.

Be the King who accepts defeat pompously rather than the lone soldier fighting for no one.

Yours,

Ardent Fan.

Busy. Very Busy!

Apologies to one and all for no posts past few weeks days. As if your life was on tenterhooks on my posting hehehe :).

I have been way way too busy these days – @ work and also some modifications to both my other sites. And then Swimming takes a much higher priority than net activities for me, so I have been spending a lot of “quality” time in the pool.

Needless to say, I am not missing blogging much πŸ˜€

In the last three weeks itself, I have improved my swimming skills by 500%. And its been a tremendous feeling. There is nothing better in this world than swimming. I wish I could stay in water forever.

Of course it also helps being trained by a great guy who represents the same swim club as Michael Phelps before he headed off to college.

Adios. Will make a post very soon.

How can the human race survive the next hundred years?

One of the modern day genius and one of my favorite icons, Stephen Hawking, has asked a very important question on Yahoo Answers.

He asks:

How can the human race survive the next hundred years?

In a world that is in chaos politically, socially and environmentally, how can the human race sustain another 100 years?

Brilliant question Dr. Hawking. I have been asking the same questions to myself and my friends – except that I dont share your fame, and thus no one takes me seriously!

I think the only way the human race can survive the next hundred years is (and I write with dead seriousness):

  1. Find a cure for HIV and Bird Flu.
  2. Eradicate Jihad.
  3. Leave earth to other galaxies.
  4. Embrace the JEDI world order πŸ˜€

So what do you think? How can the human race survive the next hundred years? Would love to hear your answers!

NEW LOOK!

Yes, I have changed my theme yet again!

I have been paying around themes for a while, and this is a theme I finally developed for techb.org – I then changed a few things and now…. its HERE!

I am going to name this theme techborg and will release it in a few days for wordpress.

Please, let me know how the theme looks – pretty please! :d

PS: The theme is best viewed in 1024×768 mode only! I have given up on 800×600 mode – its time to move ahead.

What you hear is what you get

Yesterday, my friend’s wife overheard her dear husband talking to his friend on the phone:

“….Achcha, have you got any balls? I lost all my balls, so I was thinking of coming over to your place and picking up some of your balls”

Poor wife, she stood stunned in silence, and then burst out in a laugh for a while, over such “men” talk.

She of course missed hearing the first line of the conversation:

“Are we playing Tennis today?….Cool…”

What I’ve Been Upto Lately

As you know, now with three blogs to maintain, my times is being divided amongst them. At times I find it hard, but I also find it very satisfying. For one thing, the content on three blogs are so different in nature that it has become fun for me to keep them updated. techb.org and nokjhok.com are in their nascent stages, but I think they are off to a right start.

Here’s a quick update on what I have been writing all around:

I posted a quick news check on Microsoft’s supposed Apple IPOD killer – ZUNE

Making public wi-fi internet work is way more challenging than making it work indoors. I have posted the first part on the challenges in deploying Wi-Fi networks in public space. Soon, I shall put up part 2.

Contrary to my expectations, Corporate has been getting great press, but some bloggers aren’t sure about this movie. At least half the bloggers have complained the movie lacks the “Page 3” power. I am going to wait on this one. Meanwhile, not many in blogosphere or media seem to have noticed the new movie “Golmaal – Fun Unlimited”, which has recieved favorable press.

But what I enjoyed most reading reviews of the music of Omkara. The music of Omkara is brilliant, and bloggers have written some excellent music reviews on it. Check out the links – I was very impressed by the reviews, and I have to completely agree – Omkara’s Music ROCKS! I will put up a review soon.

So there :D. A lot happening in my blogworld eh?!

Cheers.

PS: And OH! Google has given me a page rank of 5 to my blog! Wow! Am I happy or what?!

Introducing techb.org

Ye.

Yet another introduction to yet another blog that I’ve launched in the past week. You all read about the introduction to Nokjhok.com, covering the best of bollywood.

Now here is my second offering:

TECHB.ORG

TECHBORG, a play on the word cyberborg (Which is me hehe!) and Technology.

I love technology, and I am a gadget freak. Since I also own a lot of gadgets, it was only about time that I started to speak on them. This blog will focus primarily on consumer electronics that I either own, or my friends own, or I have done enough research to speak about them in detail.

In addition, I will speak on emerging trends in wireless technologies (since that is what I do for a living eh!), and its a topic I like reading and talking about!

Also, I will be looking forward to you guys to contribute to TECHB.ORG if you anything exciting to talk about on technology related topics.

Registration is open – Join in and have fun! Both for TECHB.ORG and NOKJHOK.COM

Enjoy Technology @ TECHB.ORG
Enjoy Bollywood @ Nokjhok.com

Cheers!

PS: If you are wondering why am I on a blog spree, well, for that I have to thank Karan Johar. Why? Keep guessing. One day I will tell it all.

PPS: Its gonna be a herculean task maintaining 3 blogs now!

Half Yearly Bollywood Report & Introducing Nokjhok.com

All,

As you may have noticed from some time, there is a small button on the homepage which says: “nokjhok.com”.

Today, I take this oppurtunity to introduce to you, my new project so to say – NOKJHOK.COM.

The site is all about entertainment, with news, reviews, and more from Bollywood and desi blogosphere. Here’s a quick FAQ on Nokjhok.com

What is it about?
In its element, its a Bollywood/Movie blog, where I will like to cover movie reviews, previews or just about anything related to entertainment.

What are its objectives?

  • Highlight some of the best original content in entertainment from the blogosphere. This could include movie reviews, previews, a hilarious take on Bollywood affairs, or just about anything. The key being original articles.

  • For new movies, provide a comparision between what media thinks of a movie, and what bloggers think of a movie. You can say, a rottentomatoes with a mirchi touch.

  • Allow everyone who wishes to discuss on important topics such as “Is Asha Parekh Better Than Sharmila Tagore?”.

  • Allow movie bloggers to submit content to the site, and highlight their original writings on entertainment, music, movies and such.

What will nokjhok.com not do?

Uninteresting and unoriginal articles will neither be linked or be written. For that there are thousands of movie blogs.

Why not continue writing here?

The idea needed to be expanded into a different site alltogether – this blog is a personal blog, and I didnt want it to end up being something else. Hence, different site.

Should I read and comment there?
Of course! Why should I do this publicity else heheheheheheh?

Do you want me to do anything?
Yes! Please link back to us – add us to your blogroll, use the button the homepage to link to us, spread the word.

Please use this code if you would like to link to us:

Hop along to nokjhok.com – give us ideas – What are other things we should do? You have come accross a great piece of writing on Bollywood / Music etc – share it with us! I am sure everyone else would love to read it too!

OK. I am ready to read… whats next?

Good. Henceforth, I will post my bollywood related posts directly on nokjhok.com. In due course, you will also see others writing there too. And if you want to be one of them, drop me a line at

itdoesntreallymatterAATTgmail.com

Here’s a sneak peek to the latest one I’ve written.

Half Yearly Bollywood Report!

HereÒ€ℒs quick roundup of the best (or worst) movies I have seen so far from our dear Bollywood in 2006.

Best Partner.

Is this about tennis? Squash? Badminton perhaps? No. Its about two women trying to figure out who whether they are made for each other, or not. The story is pretty simple, really:
