I am finding Google’s response to chatGPT fairly hilarious to watch, especially after Microsoft announcement of bing integration. Honestly what additional capabilities do these search engines now have that your voice assistants already did not? Weren’t you able to ask all sorts of questions in a natural way to Siri or Google or Alexa? Wouldn’t she give the right response? What changed? Suddenly people want to ask the same question to a search engine, a capability that has largely existed for better part of last decade with your voice assistants?

It has taken a while for this to happen, but Safari is my default browser on all devices! Sure I have to use chrome for a lot of work stuff, but I actively do not like the browser as much as I used to once. Safari just feels snippy and clean and doesnt feel like the bloat Chrome has become. To think Chrome was like Safari just a few years back before Google decided to make it into a stuffed monster.
I asked the kid last night who her favorite author ever was, and she replied didnt have any right now. I was like, wasnt J. K. Rowling her favorite author with her Harry Pottern fanboyism? She replied that she used to be her favorite author until she made anti-transgender comments and she cannot possibly like J. K. Rowling anymore because she is anti-LGBTQ.
Proud of you kid! I had no fucking idea she knew about all the drama that transpired about Rowling and her stances, and more importantly having the right mindset. The kids will be allright ya’all.
Pro tip for work – when scheduling a meeting, only schedule the meeting between you and the 2 people you need most in the meeting. Once you find a common time that works for you 3, schedule the meeting and make it optional for everyone else. Do not go trying to fish for a common meeting time for 6+ people. It will never happen. If ppl really want to attend *your* meeting, they will cancel theirs and free up their time.
You have reached peak crap when you have to plan a movie theater outing in advance because surge pricing and prime seat pricing will dictate how much you pay for the “experience”. I am glad that our movie theater watching is so limited these days.
I can’t wait for 2024 elections where republicans will figure out how to game all the AI powered search engines and bots to speed even more disinformation and dangerous lies but tech companies will look the other way coz free speech 🤷♂️
Sad scenes out of turkey ugh. The videos are scary and triggers my memories of Ahmedabad quake. You can never describe a earthquake until you experience it. Hope they recover soon.
50s in late october/november feels so chilly and jacket weather. 50s in february feels t-shirt/shorts weather practically!
Does anyone else feel like everything has become just expensive as hell? Like can feel it hurt the wallet now. An average India bazaar trip every 2 weeks is 250 bucks minimum. Giant grocery every 8-10 days for basics + fruits is anywhere from 80-150 bucks! A meal for 3 in northern virgina is 80-100 bucks without drinks or desserts. While I am glad that we are able to afford it, I cannot imagine the strain this puts on lots of families, especially the working class.
Last weekend had a get together at ours, a sort of belated birthday party of sorts. We are too old for dancing and merrymaking but we still get together always to celebrate. Topic came about would we recommend anybody in our family to come to USA anymore — and all of us agreed it was a hard no. Twenty two years ago life was different, and USA was a de-facto choice if you wanted to immigrate to a land of opportunity and growth. Now with continual decline of society in USA, coupled with insane living, healthcare & education costs, immigraton system, political climate and general stressful living nature has convinced us that if we were in our twenties today, none of us would choose USA as our first destination. My younger cousins and teenage nephews keep asking me about continuing higher education here & my answer to them these days is either go to Germany or Canada if they can handle the cold, and keep USA as a middle to low tier option. Heck I will be thrilled if our kid herself decides to study outside of USA lol!
