My dad has a different expectation of me than himself. As a youngster I remember him getting furious at us if we ever called him at work unless it was an emergency. There was no way in hell any of us, including mom could disturb him once he was at work. And that work ritual started right in the morning when he got ready and left to work. Until he left it was a pressure cooker situation at home lest we got his wrath. And once he was at work, there would be absolutely no communication until he was back. If we made a mistake of calling him at work for anything at all, and he didnt think it was an emergency we would get a hearing. To his credit(?), once he was back home he would set aside his work completely and not talk about it till following morning.

And now? His constant lament is how we are *so* busy that we don’t even have time to talk on the phone. What can we be doing so important in our lives that we can’t take a call from him or bro? Why is there so much drama about kid heading to school each morning? Everyone needs to chill and relax according to him, and there is nothing more important than attending to family first. So I get lectures on how I should be cool as a cucumber in morning, and how work is *just* work, and nothing will break if I dont pay attention to work for a while. Yeah dad, I agree with all of that, and I practice all of that as best as I can, but maybe consider the fact that its all learned behavior from childhood lol. Ah, the irony!

When confronted with above argument, he will first deny him ever being like that and then follow up with *so what if I was like that! that was necessary! But its not necessary for you to be like that!*. I guess I agree with the latter half of that.

The Karnataka election campaigning thats playing nonstop on TV is plain upsetting at so many levels, maybe because I am from there and I know about the state as much as I do about Gujarat. I understand the anti-Muslim bias and Muslim hate in Gujarat, but Karnataka was always far more welcoming of different religions and people, even if people from Karnataka are not necessarily as friendly or helpful as Gujaratis. Reserved they maybe, but they were still accepting of others. Its bizarre to see people are not just anti-Muslim now, but even casteism is at ridiculous peak. Lingayats vs Brahmins is now a big deal, and parties bending over backwards trying to win each caste. The hindu-fication of Karnataka has been such a strange development to see. My own extended family are slowly becoming a full blown bunch of fascists. Disappointing to see Karnataka headed this way.

Thanks to dad, we now have a steady stream of Indian news channels running in house so he can be occupied. The anti-muslim anti-Pakistan bias that has pervaded the Indian news channels is truly shocking. Anti-Pakistan was always there, but this anti-Muslim bias is quite something to see and consume nonstop on TV. Its no wonder that a good majority of people in Indian are losing their minds and becoming fascists.

Wife: I don’t know why you keep watching cooking videos on Instagram all the time! It’s not like you have cooked even one recipe from there.

Me: I also watch cricket and soccer all the time but I don’t play it.

Three of my cousins live in Dallas and they are all safe. One lives 15 mins from mall and all of them visit the mall frequently enough. Heck one of my cousins was there just a few days ago. All I can say is thank heavens they safe.

Whether Americans like to hear it or not but there is something mentally just wrong with them – even the good guys with guns and the good guys without guns. As a society, people out here are just mentally off – all I can only hope is Americans don’t inflict their useless fucking thinking to rest of the world.

Texas is an open carry state so why the fuck were there no good white Christian men around with guns who could have sprung into action and killed the shooter? Why didn’t a good white person who loves their guns and freedom and liberty defend their citizens? Now all I can do is offer thoughts and prayers and refuse to politicize the issue.

I have been a product manager for last decade and half but that hasn’t prevented dad from forwarding me articles on top skills I need as a PM to survive in 2023 😂. I am sure I am going to get gyaan on how to build software products in the next few days with random analogies to banking sector. Along the way I shall also be reminded of his friends and their sons in NYC who are also in banking and how maybe they build products too (no they don’t), ending with but why am I not building banking products!!!!

Imma gonna let you finish King Charles but there is only [one true king](https://youtu.be/-O8sGj9x1LQ).

A critical lesson we learnt last night was to never visit a Mexican restaurant on a cinco de mayo night. First off it was difficult to get a reservation at many places but we found one – get there and we are told they are running so full they cannot seat us for a while. They eventually sit us 30 mins later, and then when we ordered food took them 60 minutes to get the appetizer. Upon asking and cribbing they got out our food another 20 mins later but messed every one of our orders. We kindly asked them to take it back, checked out and came home to eat Maggi at 11 in the night. Never ever again.
