I am 100% supportive of fans who wrecked the Kolkata stadium after paying so much for the Messi GOAT tour and not even getting a chance to see him. Like you are in football Mecca of India and didn’t know how to plan it well? The crowd reaction was justified. I wish Americans learnt something from rest of the world instead of treating protests as arts and crafts class!

I miss my old gas powered furnace in the townhouse. In the 10 years we stayed there we got it serviced or repaired…. Zero times. Zero. Just did its fucking job with absolutely no issues. We never even did maintenance on it. In the last 3 years I have dropped a fortune between the two heat pumps I have – what absolute travesty and useless crap these things are.
Woke up to the cheerful news that Alito and Thomas maybe retiring before next years midterms to give Trump an opportunity to appoint two more young ultra right conservatives to the Supreme Court. Democrats have shown zero balls or drive to do anything about it when they had a chance, and you had people like RBG who thought videos of her doing pushup was all that’s required to save democracy. Trump’s legacy is generational at this point – read somewhere that if you look at Thomas, he’s been on SC representing boomers, millennials, X and Z generation so his replacement likely is also going to represent 5-6 generations if he/she is young. Unless some catastrophic actions happen by democrats, I am still very bullish on my sentiment that this country will not survive as a union. It may very well happen in our kid’s generation, but it will – a collection of nation states in a union like EU. It’s coming, whether you want it or not.
It’s been horrendously cold last couple of days, with last night and this morning just deep cold. Last night our smoke alarm went off upstairs, and when we went up to check, we could definitely smell something burning. There was no smoke or anything, but it was clear there was some kind of electrical burn somewhere. The fact that it was in multiple rooms indicated that it was something to do with our attic heat pump. I suspected a dirty filter and replaced it, and within 30 minutes the smell had gone away. I also dropped the temperature down on our upstairs furnace and did some basic google search that indicated that perhaps a dirty filter may have overloaded the system. Nonetheless I have asked our HVAC guys to come take a look at the upstairs heat pump / furnace. Have I told you lately how much I fucking hate these heat pumps? Absolute trash. Just dreading the $$$$ that I may have to shell out again to fix something.
The best Indian movies we saw in 2025 were Stolen(★★★★★), Dhadak 2(★★★★☆), Homebound(★★★★☆), Premalu(★★★★☆) and Superboys of Malegaon(★★★★☆). A common theme across all 5 movies were they were essentially stories about privilege & non-privilege in various forms. Even the romcom Premalu to a certain extent was it, though its a romcom so not the same as others.
I seriously don’t think that Tim Cook is that popular internally that he commands a level of loyalty that perhaps Steve Jobs may have had. So to me the fact that so many people are resigning from Apple’s leadership indicates he probably is staying on? I could be wrong, but senior leadership only quits if they have nothing more to really do, and there is nowhere else to grow. They’ve made bank already, so for most people its really about scope.
Using her company benefits and not wanting to lose it, my wife gifted me an Apple Watch 11 as early Christmas gift! It was free for her, and though I was not looking to replace my series 9, she would have lost the benefit if she hadn’t bought it. Anyhow, getting the Apple Watch Series 11 to pair and work with my iPhone 17pro max was excruciatingly painful. After 3 reboots, one hard reset reboot and nonsense later, it’s finally paired. Gosh the software quality of Apple has gone down so so much.
I finally seemed to have found a solution to my safari lag problem and the way to kind of fix it was to start and quit safari multiple times in a row and somehow the lag has disappeared since morning. I don’t know if it will stick but this is a positive development. Some user on reddit had posted that this fixed it for them.
What a fun tiring weekend in company of good friends and good food. This does not happen often but this time we had a party every night at someone’s place four days in a row starting Wednesday, with each night ending in our garage for a shisha and drinks night cap. Four nights of late bedtime have definitely tired me out today. We are no longer in our twenties, sigh!
3 episodes in, The Family Man S3 is not nearly as interesting as its other two seasons. I guess the controversies of the first two seasons prompted the writers to go the safe route and fallback to a ghisa-pita story line. Plus, how many of these national security stories can be set in North East India? This one feels like one too many too late. Anyway 4 more episodes to go and Manoj Bajpai is incredible as always.
