@pratik Of today’s directors, Dennis Villenueve is the only one I think whose movies when they say imax, mean imax. Dune 2 was absolutely stunning on imax and I can’t imagine dune 3 being bad either in imax just looking at trailer. That man is a fucking genius in framing.

@pratik Yeah IMAX (true imax) tends to be usually darker and grainier to watch coz the screen is so big. We watched it in some 85x46ft screen. Bring in Hoytema he will make it even worse because he and Nolan love their cameras lol.

@pratik I was disappointed with IMAX more. I loved the movie as is but his whole thing around OMG IMAX felt largely fluffy. If anything shooting this in imax was a detriment – you are literally shooting with a full frame camera at 70mm with 1f aperture. And it shows so much because this movie has so many closeups rather than expansive shots – so many scenes that should be crisp and sharp just become vanity. IMAX makes sense in movies like interstellar or dune when the expanse and largeness is part of the story – it just wasn’t here. I am sure I would love this movie in a normal theater.

I might give this movie another watch in peace of my home for sure – I am pretty sure imax kinda spoilt a bit of the experience for me.

I cut one star purely for the vanity, but beyond that the odyssey is spectacular viewing in theater. Still not close to old Nolan for me as in the movie has no repeat value for me just like Oppenheimer. I think I am also getting too old of his dark dingy look in his movies now.

Nothing in the The Odyssey screamed IMAX to me. There are so few expansive shots in the movie, and when there are it’s either dark or just devoid of color to convey scale. I have no idea what Nolan achieved with IMAX except vanity. We saw interstellar in same theaters years back and that movie absolutely blew your mind in imax, even if much of it was not shot in IMAX. Really hope Nolan gets off this vanity and shoots movies in IMAX where it actually makes sense.

🍿 The Odyssey (2026) themoviedb.org/movie/1368337 – ★★★★☆ let down ironically, by IMAX. And this movie really needed Zimmer not Ludwig. Also, Hoyte Van Hoytema needs to bring some fucking colors in his life – wasted opportunity.

I had to take a wide angle to fit the screen lol
