James Walkinshaw( our second choice) won with nearly 60% of the votes. Irene Shin (our choice) came second at 15%. It was always going to be hard to beat James considering he was personably blessed and endorsed by Connolly before his death but that scale of win was still staggering. Will be voting for him on Sept 9!

James is most likely going to win but my vote is for the under 40 democrat whose “kitchen table” issues matter to me. Anyone on this list is a better than the lawyer Amy Roma.

Was a pleasant morning to volunteer at swim meet. Met some white patents who were timing with me. One had 4 kids and other had 3. At this point AMA about their lives, where they live, what their kids do in their daily lives, sports they play, where they want to go college, grades, etc anything – I know it and I can share. Conversely ask them about the brown dad with them and do they even know if I had a kid or had just showed up to the meet for funsies 😂

I am going to cry today. I just used Cline AI autonomous code tool for VSCode (coz its approved for us to use). I gave it a simple prompt to take my upcoming holiday itinerary that Gemini created and create an interactive map (because Gemini couldnt) out of the uploaded PDF. I watched in horror as the autonomous bot went off creating a full fledged interactive map with weather details, places to see everything packaged inside a nice web-app. Then the fucking thing even ran tests on the code to ensure it was working before finally finishing it up and giving it to me. I am just legit…. jaw on floor. Ooof.

Convo between me and my teenage daughter. At least she didn’t call me boomer.

I uploaded the travel that Claude created into Gemini and asked it to improve it. Gemini got testy!

Our neighbors across the street are hosting a big party today – the amount of cars we have in neighborhood surpasses anything we have seen for a while. They had a big USAID board in front of their house in lawn- at some pt they took the sign and posed with the photos in their backyard. To be honest today only we came to know someone in their house works in usaid and maybe they are all getting together to reminisce their job and mission at usaid.

As expected England won the test match. This match was lost in first innings itself when India showcased that not only do they not have batting depth, but their bowling is woefully resembling 90s era dependent on one man age. It doesnt bode well for rest of the series if our batting depth doesnt deliver and our bowling goes nowhere. And those missed catches ugh. Suddenly missing the seniors of the team eh?

I went for lunch with the kids and their parents yesterday after swim meet. The topic of current coach came up and the other three parents were like we have no idea why so many people have quit the club this year and the coach was apparently confused too. They being white parents, I gently quipped we were not happy with coach either and were glad that our kid moved to a different coach too. I slipped in gently that maybe if they watched the color of kids who were quitting it might be easier for them to understand what’s going on. To which the white parents looked at one another and then me and said we have no idea why would anyone dislike her! We never felt any bias towards our kids. Yep white people, you are all great folks and good friends of us (and they really are very very good people) but they just do not comprehend it. I was not gonna push it so I shrugged and we just changed the topic.

Everyone knows that we are a company that is high on writing docs. PRFAQs, 6 page narrative and the enchilada. Its a part of the culture that has kept this company different from other companies. With AI advances we are being asked to maximize using AI tools to help us in our writing and docs. So last Friday I used Claude to give me a research opportunity based on an area I am looking at, then I fed the research into my custom LLM model and it spit out a 6 page narrative in a eerily accurate fashion. I skimmed through the doc and I was like wow this is good enough to go ahead. Here’s the thing – I have NO fucking understanding of the the topic that I generated a 6 pager about. Absolutely NONE. But I can guarantee you I could pass of as author of this doc and I could speak to it at high level if asked. This is the problem with these AI tools – I KNOW at my age to do better. I fear the generation coming after us will have no fundamental understanding of the topic because they can’t think – and they’ll just use AI to do the thinking for them. Its kinda sad and scary where this is headed. Feels like in a decade or two, “critical thinkers” will actually be a job family with high salary because ppl can’t.
