My ex-manager who convinced me to come back to the company is leaving in two weeks. It was a bittersweet moment for me. Just around 3 years ago he was on call convincing me to join the newly formed team. We’ve always good relationship before I had left first time, but over last 3 years we became really good friends more than colleagues. He was a great manager, took care of his team (and me) and backed us with fervor; i learnt a lot about management from him that I apply right now. When he called me to tell me he’s out, I couldn’t help but feel sad even though we’ve not been working with each for almost a year. The insane RTO push, and location stickiness, the bureaucracy and lethargy of it all finally just drove him away. I keep thinking how much good talent this company has lost over the last year over this whole RTO nonsense and it shows no signs of subsiding. I for one wish our old boss/CEO never left (or came back). He might have been a shitty person in real life but goddamn he was a great leader and a visionary, which is so sadly lacking anymore today.
