Fall TV

All right, after quite a while I am back to writing, full time. Not that anyone of you missed me (Oh, you did? cho chweet! Now get on with it!), but my offline life has suddenly become more muddled and busy that my online life has taken a backseat.

And if I am not working, I am watching my TV. Which is what this post is going to be about. I had been wanting to write on this for quite a while now – without further ado, here’s my take on the best shows on TV this fall season. I am watching them regularly. So they must be good. So you must watch too :P.

Desperate HousewivesDesperate Housewives

Just when you think desperate housewives had hit a slump, it starts to rebound. I wouldn’t call this show a classic, and its second and third seasons haven’t exactly been as scintillating as the first one, this show has enough meat in it to keep its audience and me interested. Of course with a name like that for a TV show, who wouldn’t be? What saves DH from being mediocre is some splendid acting by Teri Hatcher (playing Susan Mayer), Felicity Huffman (Lynette Scavo) and Eva Longoria (Gabrielle Solis). There are enough plot twists and turn in this show that can be matched only by Balaji Telefilms productions – Murder, Infidelity, Affairs, Memory Loss, two men behind one woman, two women behind one man, rotten kids, good kids, Hiding thieves – you name it. But still, there’s something about this show that draws me whenever I am at home and it happens to be a Sunday.

LOSTLOST

You can crib, you can whine, you can rant, but there’s no escape from LOST. I have been hooked on to this show from season 1. Although I crib and complain that Season 3 has taken away much of the shine and suspense of the first two seasons, I am willing to postpone everything to catch this show on Wednesday night. For a show that has so many loose ends that it is almost a crime to keep following it, paradoxically its that much addictive. Season 3 seems to have taken on a to weak start, but I am hoping come February, LOST will pick up. I once argued that LOST has copied a lot of story line from a Zee TV show called Awaaz Dil Se Dil Tak, and I had to face ire of its fan folk. I am not a religious zealot behind this show, but I like what I see. And who is that monster smoke anyways?

Grey's Grey’s Anatomy

Grey’s Anatomy is as good as Television gets. For a show that is in its 3 rd Season, it doesn’t seem to have lost any shine or sheen, which in itself a feat for any TV show. For some god damn reason (or very good writers) every episode feels fresh and original – the writing is fabulous, the acting is fantastic, excellent direction and story lines and music is great. Though I do miss the fact unlike is previous seasons where the doctor’s interactions with patients brought about their own personality, it has deviated into more self parody drama. Yet, its another show I am not willing to miss it for any cost. Where would TV be without Grey’s Anatomy?

Friday Night LightsFNL

Unequivocally, this is the BEST show of Fall season, and ironically is the least watched show on TV. So much so that it may be canceled, which would do such a show a gross injustice. You may never like American Football, but there is something about this show that comes across as honest and gripping TV. This is how TV shows should be. The drama is about the fictional Dillon High School Football team in Texas and is loosely inspired by movie of the same name, which is inspired by a true story novella of the same name, and trails their heroics when a new coach joins them. Peter Berg who made the movie version, also made the TV version. The writing is fantastic, the direction is awesome, but what sets it apart from other shows is the honesty and commitment each actor brings to his role in the show. Kyle Chandler as Coach Taylor is simply terrific, and simply breathes his role – its certainly an award worthy performance. So are the other “high school” student actors – each of them excels in their own way. What is also good about this show it doesn’t try to be yet another teen angst drama.

That’s it. And you thought I watch too much TV eh? Thats 4 shows on 4 nights of the week. I do see other shows too, but they are the types I see on and off; meaning I am not sufficiently hooked to them to not miss a single episode. Though, I do catch “House”, “Prison Break”, “Ugly Betty”, “Dancing With The Stars” and few Football matches here and there.

That’s about all the TV I get to see. If not any other show, see Friday Night Lights. It deserves to be seen.
